Foot Narrowing

Squeezing into trend-setting stilettos can be a challenge, especially if you have wide feet.  If the width of your feet causes you pain or has made it difficult to wear certain shoes, you might benefit from foot narrowing at Surgical Arts of Inland Empire.

Am I a Candidate for Foot Narrowing?

Bunions and Tailor’s bunions (smaller bunions on the outside of the foot) can cause a lot of grief for women who want to wear high heeled shoes. If you’re unhappy with the width of your feet, you may be a potential candidate for foot narrowing. We will be able to determine if foot narrowing is right for you based on an in-house consultation.

What Happens During Foot Narrowing?

Foot narrowing corrects bunions on both sides of the feet. An Incision will be made on the inside of your foot near the base of your big toe and on the outside of your foot near the base of your small toe.

Using specialized tools, your surgeon will shave down the bone and realign your toes to a straighter position. Pins, plates or screws may be necessary to hold your bone in place during recovery.

After Foot Narrowing

The length of your recovery will depend on the extent of your procedure. In some cases, 3 months or longer may be required for a complete recovery.

It is realistic to anticipate some pain during the healing process. Pain medication will be available to help you manage discomfort. You will also need to wear a special post-operative shoe to protect the healing bone.  In some cases, crutches may be necessary for mobility during your recovery.
