Hernia Repair
For any hernia moderately sized and larger, surgery is often recommended for correction to avoid other complications which may arise as a result of the hernia. In this case, surgery is completed to remove the hernia sac and to close the opening of the inguinal canal, at the site of the hernia. While larger hernias may necessitate a general anesthetic, surgery for moderately sized hernias can be completed under a local anesthetic. In most cases, surgery is completed on an outpatient basis. The risk of the hernia returning after surgery is minimal.
Elective Cholecystectomy
Some patients who regularly suffer from gallstones may choose to have the gall bladder removed in a procedure called a Cholecystectomy. In some cases, less invasive surgeries may have been previously attempted without resolution of the issue. The most ideal form of this surgery is with the use of a laparoscope, in which the surgeon inserts a small camera through tiny incisions. If this surgery is not possible, an open surgery may be necessary and would also necessitate a longer recovery time—more than one week.
